I'm a foster parent. the day after my kiddo had their parental rights terminated (they said they couldn't handle her and didn't want her anymore) she got in a fight in school and I had to pick her up. I asked her what's going on and she just sat across from me and a single tear run down her face and she said "why don't they love me anymore? I thought your parents are supposed to love you." this broke my heart into a million pieces and in that moment I decided I wasn't going to give up on her. she's been with us over 4 years now and we're officially adopting her. she's the light of my life. and I love her so much.

Sitting through forensic interviews. My children wonder why I’m so “overprotective.” It’s because of forensic interviews.

There’s this kid I have thought about for a long time. We did an emergency removal bc of the home conditions. He was at school along with his other siblings. We went to get him from school. It was his birthday. He sobbed and was so angry. All he said was “but it’s my birthday, we were supposed to have cookies today”. Me, the other worker, the counselor and other school staff and even law enforcement.. we were all hiding tears. It was a large sibling group. I sat at our office until midnight bc we all put our heads together to find placement for all 6 of them TOGETHER and thankfully found someone who not only could take all of them but who also knew the kids. I had to pluck out dog poop out of their hair and find them all new clothes while we waited for placement to be found. I transported the one boy whose birthday it was and I violated some rules bc I took off to McDonald’s without telling anyone and got him cookies for his bday. He just wrapped his arms around me and cried and said thank you for saving us, thank you for celebrating my birthday” and i still think about him and his siblings.

Seperated as siblings. I was 13, he was 6. He is his family's pride and joy, the son they never got. I moved 10 times in 4 years, and his family said they'd never take "a girl like me" even when I was homeless after aging out. I just wanted my brother man. I'm in school for social work and work adult guardianship now, thank yall holding it down in child welfare.

A breaking point of mine was having to tell a kiddo that they were going back home to the person that abused them. When I said this they showed me their bruises and I fought against all my bosses that day and told them I wasn’t letting this kid go back home that night (despite this not even being my case). I was left alone with this kid in the office working on finding placement just for a few days later the case to be upheld in court, DESPITE multiple supervisors (count supervisor included) opinions that the case wouldn’t get upheld in court. Having a kid throw up because they were scared to go back… I will NEVER forgot this kid and I will NEVER be silent for a child and their needs
