KAMPALA, 25 SEPTEMBER 2026 Airtel Uganda customers with compatible Android phones can now register for a new satellite messaging service powered by Starlink, allowing them to stay connected in areas beyond the reach of conventional mobile towers. The service does not require a Starlink dish or any separate satellite device. Users can access SMS and light-data services, including WhatsApp messaging, when they have a clear view of the sky and are outside normal mobile network coverage. HOW TO REGISTER Open or download the MyAirtel App. Register your Airtel Uganda number. Tap “View All” under “Quick Actions.” Select the Starlink icon. Eligible customers can activate a free 30-day trial. IMPORTANT INFORMATION The service is currently available on compatible Android devices. iPhone/iOS support has not yet been announced. Airtel Uganda says it will make an announcement when the service becomes available on iOS. Airtel has not announced voice calls as part of the service. After the free trial, customers will require an eligible Airtel Uganda data bundle. Airtel has not yet announced the qualifying bundles or their prices. A clear view of the sky is required for satellite connectivity. Airtel says the service could provide an additional communication option for people in remote areas and help users send messages when conventional ground networks are unavailable. Uganda is reported to be the second African market where Airtel Africa has commercially launched the Starlink service, following the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
