You people are missing the point of the entire video. The 17 yr seems to think that she knows everything so the mom is making a point that if she does in fact know everything she should be able to figure it out. She isn’t saying she’s not there to help her, but at some point young adults NEED to learn to figure things out on their own.

The daughter was being rude to her parents by saying she’s an adult and don’t have to listen to their recommendations. By saying that, the daughter is saying she’s didn’t need their help.

Nailed it! Every comment section on this woman’s video misses the important nuances: Mom is *saying* she wants daughter to be an independent human (great!) but her *actions* are punishing not teaching (not great!). Daughter is going against mom’s wishes so mom is withholding. It’s insidious. Yes, allowing kids to work through challenges important. But, you can guide without doing and kids can feel supported as they learn. The problem is the mom’s energy which is contemptuous and acting like withholding support to require unnecessary struggle is the same as guiding and teaching. It’s not.

I like her!! I’m a mama of two teens also and it’s so incredibly frustrating when you give really good and sound advice that they just won’t listen to, and instead do it their way and find themselves in a sticky situation then wanna ask for help … I’d respond the same way … figure it out. 🤷♀️

I didn’t go to my parents for advice as a teen or young adult, ever. I did just figure it out. Good parent or not, her daughter can figure things out. Success and failure are amazing teachers.

Y'all are looking at this wrong there's a huge difference between letting your kids fall and then having that independence to get back up on their own and just letting them fail and she not gonna let her daughter fail but she needs to know how to be accountable for the choices she make since she wants to go out and live her life

refraining from helping her daughter is the most selfless thing she could do. is easier for a parent to just do whatever needs to be done. she has to teach the little bird to fly. she has to push her daughter out of the nest and make her fly on her own.

Yeah this gave me the ick. I’d hate for my 19 year old to move out, but I’d absolutely help her if she wanted to. I want my kids to figure out what they want, and work towards it.
