The media loves talking up the doomsday scenario because it gets rating and the CEOs love bringing it up because they want to make Chinese competitors illegal. Let’s be clear - chat bots can’t kill you. They just manipulate text and run programs. The worst thing that could happen is that TikTok might be down for a while. What is more worrying is if they start putting AI into military robots which to be clear the USA has been working on for years. Then yes AI could go rogue, but that’s because you’ve built weapons with them damn thing. AI is just a tool. It is not evil, the problem is the people using it.
