@punkshortstv: Dropkick Murphys - Barroom Hero 🤟 #DropkickMurphys #BarroomHero #DoOrDie #CelticPunk #PunkShorts “Barroom Hero” takes us back to the earliest era of Dropkick Murphys. Originally released in 1997 and later included on their 1998 debut album Do or Die, the song comes from the period when Mike McColgan was still the band’s lead singer, before Al Barr joined the group. And the “hero” in the title isn’t exactly someone to admire. The song tells the story of a working-class man trapped in a destructive cycle of drinking, fighting and wasting his life in bars. Inside that world, he can feel important — a “barroom hero” — even while everything outside it is falling apart. That contradiction gives the song its weight. Behind the huge sing-along chorus is a character whose anger and alcohol have become part of his identity, leaving him unable to escape the same mistakes. Musically, it already contained everything that would become classic Dropkick Murphys: street punk, Irish influence, working-class storytelling and a chorus made to be screamed by an entire room. Before the arenas. Before “I’m Shipping Up to Boston.” Before Dropkick Murphys became one of the biggest Celtic punk bands in the world. There was a barroom hero from Boston. 🍺🤟🔥
