I went to SF Tech Week expecting to come away with a list of new AI tools to test. Instead, I left with two analog cameras, new IRL friends, and an extremely colorful 90s windbreaker! The biggest takeaway after a week of panels, dinners, and late-night convos: the highest-paying skill in tech right now is still storytelling, taste, and lived experience. Software is easier than ever to spin up, which makes human discernment the real differentiator. A few moments from the week that drove that home: • Speaking on a Creator Gold panel with @siliconvalleygirl and @madeline.m.zhang about AI for creators. We all use AI constantly, and we still run into walls generating strong ideas or scripts because AI has zero lived experience. (Thank you @monicakhan__ @francepicks for hosting!) • Dinner celebrating Gamma 5 with @meetgamma and @expandcolab The whole room agreed that AI frees people up to be better storytellers to the people in the room, rather than getting buried in slide formatting. (So good seeing the Gamma team and shoutout @corporatenatalie and @sivanalouf for putting together such a great night!) • An intimate dinner with @lovable.dev and @wisprflow with women building in AI, talking about why taste matters so much when anyone can generate code • An analog 90s night with @useapollo.io with zero phones allowed, because closing deals still comes down to getting an actual person on the line. Even after their Claude plugin found me 64 brand contacts in 5 minutes! (Plus the Kodak camera and vintage windbreaker.) The future belongs to people using AI notetakers in the background so they can stay present in meetings. People using tools like Gamma so they can focus on presenting their narrative. Dictating tasks to an AI agent so they can talk on a 4-way FaceTime with their whole family (literally the girl sitting next to me on the plane right now while we're stuck on the tarmac). Virtual tools amplify showing up. They never replace it. Getting our URL and IRL impressions up!
