I am at peace with it because sometimes you can do everything right as a parent and you have to step back and let them fight the battle within themselves for a bit. It’s not always either persons fault but you both need time to heal from the trauma you fought through together. 3 of my 4 kids talk to me 24/7 but the one struggles it’s not me or her it is a heart wound I can’t heal for her and I didn’t cause but it still has always causes a rift between us.

This hit me like a ton of bricks. Struggling right now to understand why my mom just refuses to be my mom instead of competing with me and lying to me constantly.

looking at parents in the comments. Your feelings matter but so does your kids. Every situation is different but at the end of the day, you’re the parent no matter how old they get. They never asked to be here in this life, you help put them here. So while you’re giving up on their relationship, they’re dealing with battles they never asked for.

I went no contact with my parents after a series of very unfortunate events and feeling like no one was in my corner (after already a lifetime of feeling outcasted). As soon as my parents fully understood they no longer had access to me and how hurt I truly was, they finally made an effort. And not just for me, they stopped drinking, went back to church, and made every effort possible to rekindle our relationship. It was the hardest thing I ever did but I’m very thankful my parents took it seriously and wanted to keep me in their lives

My mom is far from perfect but she can have a conversation and, at the minimum, hear my position

My daughter knows I would die for her but most importantly live for her. She knows I’m a pretty prideful person but for her I will swallow & that she’s always safe & welcome home no matter her age.

Been no contact with my mom for almost 8 years and the only time she’s ever messaged me is to ask what size my children wear and how old they were to buy them gifts…. I’ve never gotten a birthday message or even a simple hope you’re doing well. Maybe things would have been different if she reached out to express she still cares. I just know, I’d do anything to be apart of my children’s lives when they’re grown up. I’ll never understand it.

I do this now. I wait until we’re calm and ask. I listen. I remind him how much I love him. Every chance I get, I say I love you.

My MIL hasn’t seen my daughter since she was 6 months old… shes 2 and a half now. She has never asked to see her or tried to make up with us for what she did. She invites my husband for holidays and he never goes. No room at our table for that. She doesn’t even know we are having another baby soon…. Makes me hurt for my husband, but I work hard to make our table fulfilling enough he doesnt notice 🥰

When my children were little I said a lot of things. Over the past 20 years raising boys I have also eaten a lot of those words. It’s easy to perceive how life will be with your children for their entire lives, but sometimes circumstances change and there is absolutely nothing we as parents can do about it but just hope and pray for things to change.

I’m at peace with the no contact with my mom. It sucks, but I have spent my entire adult life trying to heal the girl that she allowed to be broken. Don’t get me wrong I LOVE MY MOM. But I love me and my children more. She chooses to stay with my abuser, and I will not allow the cycle to continue with my daughters.

This hits too close to home 🥺 I’ve spent majority of my life wondering why my mother could never be bothered to choose me. She’s treated me horribly throughout my life. She spends more time with her friends & their kids rather than her own daughter & grandchildren. Her excuse is always “‘mental health” but I’ve found that excuse of hers only applies to me. I gave it one last shot & yet again she disappoints me. She couldn’t care less unless it’s something that benefits her. I’ve given up at this point. My focus now is healing & being the best mother I can possibly be to my children.

When the child goes not contact, blocks you with no word. Reaching out goes on deaf ears.
