Running recovery groups or group therapy check-ins and need fresh ideas? In group counseling, recovery programs, and relapse prevention sessions, check-in questions set the tone for everything that follows. They give clients a chance to reflect, share openly, practice coping skills in a supportive space, AND help the facilitator know what topics need discussed further that day. Some of my favorites include emotions check-ins with the feelings wheel, HALT prompts (Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired), daily affirmations, urges/cravings reflections, wellness trackers, and even a brain dump page where clients can draw, write, or scribble whatever’s on their mind. These recovery group check-in worksheets work well for therapy activities, relapse prevention counseling, and mental health support groups because they highlight patterns, encourage accountability, and open up powerful discussions. Counselors, therapists, and group facilitators can use them to make morning check-ins more structured, consistent, and intentional while giving clients space to talk about what matters most.
