i dont understand why most of yall choose seiroku, after knowing that kengo loving her quietly, and to be fair, they moved on, and kengo finally able to express his feelings without being nonchalant about, and she also too sad with the shadow of seiroku who died in war.

Kengo knew how close they were ( not that they were a couple ) so before asking her family for her hand in marriage he asked seiroku if he had romantic feelings for noriko. seiroku lied and told him no, so kengo felt it was okay to propose. seiroku & noriko were planning to escape the engagement which—if noriko told kengo the truth, he would cancel the engagement immediately because he deeply cared for both of them and their happiness. seiroku sent a letter to noriko where they would meet before escaping, but norikos father intercepted and hid the letter. forcing seiroku to go to the front lines, believing she chose to stay behind. at the front lines, seiroku broke down to kengo that he did love noriko. kengo didnt get angry and accepted it. why didnt kengo call off the engagement when he got back from the war ? because he felt like he would abandon noriko with her strict father. then why didnt noriko call it off ? she was consumed by grief, resigning to her fate. later on, he asks her the same thing we just saw in the scene. she does not slap him. she calls him a coward, and that seiroku has a special place in her heart. but now that hes gone, its time for them to live in the present rather than dwell on the past. kengo proposes yet again and she responds with yes. the anime left out / changed some very important details.

Guys kengo didn't steal anyone, noriko simply moved on. Noriko didn't even want to break kengo's engagement with her and got mad at him for not telling her about his guilt.
