Most of the buildings in all town were owned by Chettiars. In the 50's Burma now Mynmar, the Chettiars properties were confiscated by the Govt. This led to the Community selling their properties in Malaya then.

Not all were chettiyar. Taman Sri Trong behind the market was developed by a chettiyar. Most of these shops belonged to other communities. My grandfather was Manickam Pillai. His house was the first lot in a row of shops further down the road. He used to own many acres of land there. So did other Indians who were not chettiyar. My father ran a grocery shop in TRP estate. My uncle had a shop in allangar estate.
