Okay, this is actually one of the sweetest relationship stories because imagine being loved by somebody who has randomly decided that every day is your day. 😭 Not because it’s your birthday. Not because it’s your anniversary. Not because you accomplished something huge and earned a celebration. It’s literally just Tuesday and this man is like, “Get both desserts, it’s your day.” And I think that’s such a perfect example of how the smallest interactions can tell you so much about the atmosphere of a relationship. It’s not really about buying two desserts. It’s about being with somebody who enjoys seeing you happy. Somebody who doesn’t make affection feel like a scarce resource that only comes out for special occasions. Somebody who looks at the person they love enjoying something and thinks, Why not? Life is short. Get both. Obviously, healthy love isn’t measured by how much somebody buys you, and nobody should feel pressured to spend money they don’t have just to prove they care. The beautiful part isn’t the dessert; it’s the spirit behind it. It’s turning ordinary days into little celebrations. It’s bringing home their favorite snack for no reason. It’s saying, “Let’s go,” when they randomly mention somewhere they’d like to visit. It’s remembering the tiny things that make them happy and getting excited to participate in them. Because when you really think about it, the overwhelming majority of a relationship isn’t birthdays, anniversaries, vacations, proposals, or huge romantic gestures. It’s regular days. It’s grocery stores and car rides and deciding what to eat and sitting on the couch and figuring out what you’re doing tonight. So finding somebody who can make those moments feel special might matter more than finding somebody capable of creating one spectacular Valentine’s Day. And I love that she apparently didn’t even think his comment required an explanation. To her, “it’s your day” was just something her boyfriend says because that’s how he loves her. Meanwhile the person overhearing it is discovering an entirely new relationship standard in real time. 😭 Maybe that’s the kind of love worth looking for: not somebody who waits for the calendar to give them permission to celebrate you, but somebody who occasionally looks at the most ordinary day imaginable and decides it’s yours anyway.
