@nourishingapothecary: Could UTIs matter more in early pregnancy than we realise? There is emerging research looking at the relationship between urinary tract infections during pregnancy and adverse pregnancy outcomes, including miscarriage. And this is something I pay particular attention to in women who have a history of recurrent UTIs. If you’re someone who regularly experiences UTIs, vaginal infections or changes in your vaginal microbiome, I want to know about that when we’re preparing for pregnancy. These things shouldn’t automatically be dismissed as completely separate from your reproductive health. The vaginal and urinary microbiomes are also closely connected, and maintaining a healthy Lactobacillus dominant vaginal environment is an important part of reproductive and vaginal health. In this final snippet from my latest YouTube video, I talk about why I consider this history when working with women trying to conceive and during early pregnancy. My full video “Why Aren’t You Falling Pregnant? 7 Reasons You May Be Struggling to Conceive” is now live on the Nourishing Apothecary YouTube channel. I go much deeper into some of the less obvious factors I investigate when a couple is struggling to conceive.
