🇵🇱🚆 ONE OF THE MOST STUNNING TRAIN VIEWS IN POLAND Every time I travel by train across the Vistula at Tczew, I find myself looking out the window at the extraordinary old bridge sitting alongside the railway line. And it isn’t just a beautiful old structure — Most Tczewski is a genuine piece of European engineering history. Opened in 1857, the original Tczew bridge carried both trains and road traffic across the Vistula. At the time it was an engineering marvel — a pioneering long-span lattice-truss bridge, with distinctive neo-Gothic towers that made it look almost like a medieval fortress stretched across the river. Then came 1 September 1939. The bridges at Tczew were strategically vital, and fighting around them formed part of the very opening events of the German invasion of Poland. Polish defenders ultimately blew sections of the crossings to prevent German forces from securing the route across the Vistula. Today, only three spans of the original 1857 structure survive, alongside later sections added or reconstructed during its turbulent history. The historic road bridge has been closed to traffic for years while efforts to restore it continue. But from the train travelling across the neighbouring railway bridge, you get an incredible view of it. For me, it’s genuinely one of the most stunning views you can get from a train in Poland — the Vistula below you, Tczew in the distance and more than 160 years of history right outside the window. ❤️🇵🇱 Have you ever crossed the Tczew bridges by train? #Tczew #Poland #Polska #PolishHistory #VisitPoland
