This is wrong and shameful ❌... Why have we continued to produce a class of traditional rulers (Igwe) who have no sense of self worth or respect for our Igbo heritage? The Obi, Igwe and Ndị Nze na Ọzọ who reigned between 1900 and 1967 had class. They bowed before no one. Not even the Queen of England. Even though some of them were warrant chiefs, they still had some sense of pride on our heritage, as Ndị gboo. This class of 'Igwe Certificate' (modern warrant chiefs) do not care about anything - not our Igbo heritage, not our ancient cultures or traditions. To them anything goes. That is why the Igwe of Oko will shake Remi Tinubu with both hands. An insult to the people of Oko whom he represents, and Ndị Igbo entirely by extension. We are in a mess as a people. It is difficult to find a traditional ruler who understands and practices Ọdịnala na Omenala in its true form. If they are not doing Igo Ofo and Igo Oji in Jesus name, they are removing their caps for the Bishop, or shaking a woman with both hands and bowing to her. Many times I will want to blame colonialism for this rot in our society, but I feel it is deeper than that. Ndị Igbo were not the only ethnic nationality that was colonized by the British or Europeans. Yet, many other cultures have kept their traditional offices as royal as possible, commanding the utmost respect from government officials and dignitaries, no matter where they come from. Other times I want to blame the worship of money by our people. This worship of money and status blinds some of our so-called traditional rulers that lose themselves in trying to please a president's wife, because they will need a favor or wands of cash from the president. However, I know for a fact that these traits exists because most of these traditional rulers don't carry the ancient blood of Igbi royalty - that which runs in the Obi, amongst first sons in the Ụmụnna and Obodo. ~ Chuka Nduneseokwu - @abum_nnaemeka
