@apeswildforever: WHY IS GORILLA TREKKING SO EXPENSIVE? The reason why this type of African safari tends to be the most expensive safari (at least, hour-for-hour!) is because: 1. The permit to enter Volcanoes National Park costs $1,500 per person per day. There are only 96 permits issued each day as part of a conscious effort to prevent overtourism. We recommend 2 days of trekking to improve your odds at the best gorilla encounters. 2. There are a lot of taxes... and as a tourist who benefits from the exceptionally strong infrastructure in Rwanda, you should be grateful for that. 10% of all national park revenue goes towards public programs around roads, housing, education, and clean water. You can see your tourism dollars at work everywhere you turn, and it makes for a much better quality of life for the people who live and work in this beautiful country. 3. Accommodations are focused on attracting luxury and ultra-luxury travelers. There are 4 main lodges Tretter Travel considers for clients asking for gorilla trekking, and their peak season (June through October) rates start at over $7k for a couple. We generally suggest 3 nights for the gorilla trekking portion of your trip, so a reasonable estimate for accommodations would be $20-30k for 2 adults. Comment LODGE and I’ll send you the Tretter Travel breakdown of the 4 luxury lodges. These lodges often book 12+ months out for peak season, so if you want to get your 2027 safari on the books, inquire soon. #gorillatrekking #volcanoesnationalpark #luxurysafari #rwandasafari
