@madison.blake65: Three Memphis daycare employees have been indicted after a 6-year-old girl was left inside a hot daycare bus for hours before being found. Tametria Norry, the bus driver, Sabrina Powe, an assistant director at Kid University, and Amilya Hardin, a daycare assistant, were each charged with aggravated child neglect, criminally negligent homicide and destruction or tampering with governmental records in connection with Winter Jones’ August passing. Police and ambulance crews were called to Kid University on Aug. 13 after Winter was discovered inside a bus outside the facility. She was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced d3ad. Her father, Bryan Jones, later said her internal temperature had reached 109 degrees. According to the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office, Winter was dropped off at the daycare that morning and was supposed to be taken to Macon Hall Elementary School. Instead, she remained inside the vehicle after it returned to Kid University and was not discovered until around 3 p.m. A fatality inspection by the Tennessee Department of Human Services reportedly found several transportation violations. Inspectors said required vehicle checks were not completed after children were unloaded, transportation logs were inaccurate and required walk-throughs to confirm every child had left the vehicle were not performed. Winter’s family spoke publicly about the tragedy on Sept. 10. Her father called what happened “senseless” and blamed “absolute negligence.” Her mother, Nakia Cloman, recalled receiving a call from the daycare saying Winter had been left on the bus and was barely breathing. By the time she reached the hospital, her daughter had passed away. The family’s attorneys said they are pursuing the criminal case and a civil case. Kid University permanently closed after the incident, and its owner surrendered the facility’s license. Winter was autistic and unable to communicate when she needed help. Her family says the people responsible for caring for her broke the promise to keep her safe.
