The Vector W8 also known as the Vector W8 Twin-Turbo is a mid-engine sports car produced by the American manufacturer Vector Aeromotive Corporation from 1989 to 1993 designed by company founder Gerald Wiegert as an ambitious attempt to create a world-beating American supercar evolving from the earlier Vector W2 prototype shown in the 1970s. It featured a futuristic angular wedge-shaped body with scissor doors extensive use of aerospace-grade materials including a bonded and riveted aluminum semi-monocoque chassis with honeycomb structure and body panels combining carbon fiber Kevlar and fiberglass for exceptional rigidity and lightweight construction. Power came from a transversely mounted twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter aluminum-block V8 derived from a racing Chevrolet small-block engine with intercooled Garrett turbos forged internals dry-sump lubrication and adjustable boost from 8 to 14 psi officially rated at 625 hp at 5700 rpm and 630 lb-ft of torque at 4900 rpm though factory dyno tests reportedly reached up to 1200 hp at maximum boost. Drive was sent to the rear wheels via a modified General Motors Turbo-Hydramatic 425 three-speed automatic transaxle originally from front-wheel-drive Oldsmobile models. Suspension comprised double wishbones front and De Dion tube rear with Koni adjustable shocks while braking used large ventilated discs with four-piston calipers. Performance claims included 0-60 mph in around 4.0 seconds quarter-mile in about 12 seconds at over 120 mph and a projected top speed of 242 mph though independent tests achieved figures closer to 4.1-4.2 seconds to 60 mph and estimated top speeds around 218 mph. The interior featured fighter jet-inspired instrumentation Recaro seats and advanced audio for the era with Michelin bespoke tires on wide custom wheels. Production was extremely limited with only about 17 customer cars built plus prototypes and pre-production units totaling around 22 examples before the company faced financial difficulties and ceased operations in 1993. The Vector W8 remains a rare cult icon symbolizing bold American ambition extravagant claims controversial history and raw 1990s supercar excess often praised for its unique design brutal power and scarcity despite reliability and production challenges. #VectorW8 #VectorAeromotive #AmericanSupercar #TwinTurboV8 #RareSupercar
