George wrote them since the beginning with so many structural, thematic, and narrative parallels that they essentially live out the exact same life arc on opposite sides of the world. Both were born from the ruin & destruction of their house, both paid the price of the stupid decisions of their fathers & mother died at birth, both grew up displaced and believing they had no place in the world, both were forced to mature far too young, and both found a sense of belonging through the people they chose as their own. They both carry the weight of their family’s legacy while desperately trying to become something better than what came before them. And despite taking completely different paths, they keep reaching for the same thing: a home, a family, and a place where they truly belong, AND I KNOW they will find ALL of this things in each other . That’s what makes their slowburn romance one of the MOST beautiful things ever written if George can pull it off.sad the some “fans” dare pit them against each other..

Istg everyone takes that “he felt alone” quote out of context, he feels alone and isolated because he feels like he’s broken every vow that he stood for. He isn’t honorable like Eddard Stark’s son anywhere, he isn’t abstained from sex like a man of the watch, and worst of all he no longer dreams through Ghost and feels a disconnect from his own direwolf. He feels alone because he’s losing his identity, hell he even begins to wonder about his place in the world like when he questions if Arya was ever truly his sister. He’s not yearning for love, he’s yearning for a sense of self.
