The bubble tea place Mixue actually made a statement that said she was not their employee and her actions dont align with Mixue values and everyone is welcome in their stores. In saying this, it was a promotion for Fantuan an Asian food delivery service. Not entirely sure why they would only target the Chinese demographic in a multicultural country especially when competing with Ubereats & Doordash. You would want the delivery service to be known by everyone to be the most successful (from a business perspective).

Ricky! I wanted to offer some clarification :) Fantuan is catered to chinese people, but it is offered in many languages. She meant that he needs the app, which he didn’t have. These events often also need you to have WeChat so you can scan their code and join their promotional group. While neither of these are exclusive to Chinese people, the fact that he fulfilled neither of the criteria means that he cannot have the drink. She definitely worded it wrong, but that does not mean that he gets to be racist knowingly in her face.

The app actually has some popularity in chicago ive used it a few times and they did a free bubble tea event at my apartment complex that like 90% white people. Prolly more context to the story but the app is definitely trying to market outside Asian and asian diaspora

I studied in Melbourne for my degree. lived in a dorm in Clayton campus. the first year my dorm mates were Australian and the amount of indirect racism I faced was staggering. when food goes missing in the fridge, we were instantly blamed (though there were only 3 of us). we didn't even date cook in the communal kitchen because they would come in groups and make loud comments about weird smells. the RA didn't do anything either. we were honestly too afraid to stir things up because we were on a scholarship and the dorm office ladies implied as such. things improved in my second year when my new dorm mates were other Asians (Singaporeans mostly) and other Asian Australians. some of the previous year's dorm mates stayed in the same dorm but didn't approach us anymore.
