About 50 others were hospitalised and are receiving treatment, according to reports. The state government said the ban covers alcoholic drinks and other substances sold in sachets, bottles or other forms whose sources, contents or regulatory status cannot be verified. The Ministry of Health has commenced investigations into the substance suspected to be responsible for the deaths, with scientific officers deployed to the affected areas to identify the substance and establish what caused the fatalities. The government also directed security agencies to clamp down on the sale and distribution of illegal or unapproved products and warned that anyone who violates the directive would face the full force of the law.
