The Namibian Police Force is strengthening the preparation of future police officers following the national accreditation of its Certificate in Policing at National Qualifications Framework Level 5. Acting Inspector General Anne-Marie Nainda said the new framework will extend basic training from six months to a full year and increase the curriculum from six to eleven modules. It will also introduce advanced computer technology and revised legal courses. The change is important because police officers carry responsibilities that directly affect public safety, individual rights and the justice system. NAMPOL's functions include maintaining law and order, investigating offences, preventing crime and protecting life and property. These duties require more than physical training. Officers need knowledge of law, evidence, communication, technology, ethics and procedures for dealing with the public. The longer training period can give cadets more time to understand their powers and responsibilities before entering full police duties. Stronger legal training can help officers follow proper procedures when dealing with suspects, victims, witnesses and evidence. This matters because police decisions can affect people's liberty, safety and access to justice. Technology is increasingly important in policing. Digital communication, electronic records, cybercrime and digital evidence are now part of modern law enforcement. NAMPOL's 2026 recruitment programme has identified cyber security as a specialised field, reflecting the growing need for technological skills. The programme will provide identical training at the Israel Patrick Iyambo Police College, Ruben Danger Ashipala, Pius Joseph Kaundu and Simon Mutumba training centres. A common curriculum can help establish consistent standards for cadets across Namibia. According to Nainda, the accreditation follows 17 years of curriculum development and institutional reviews. It covers three years, from June 2025 to June 2028, subject to re-application in 2027. NAMPOL also plans to seek accreditation for specialised courses in traffic enforcement and criminal investigation. For the public, better-trained officers can contribute to more consistent policing, stronger investigations, improved evidence handling and clearer legal procedures. NAMPOL says witness statements and other evidence are important to successful criminal prosecutions. Training officers to collect, record and handle information properly can support the wider justice process. The nation should take development seriously. Accreditation alone will not guarantee better policing; its value will depend on how the programme is delivered and applied. Cadets should use the additional training to build discipline, knowledge, judgement and professional responsibility. Instructors and commanders should ensure that training standards are reflected in daily police work. #namtiktok🇳🇦 #viral #nampolice #training #fypシ゚viral
