@archisource: What happens when you move almost everything a building needs to the outside? • Lloyd’s of London, completed in 1986 and designed by Richard Rogers and Partners the building moved circulation, servicing and much of the building’s infrastructure to the exterior. Lifts, stairs, ducts, pipework and service towers sit externally, freeing the interior from fixed cores and allowing the underwriting floors to remain open and adaptable • At the centre, a 60-metre atrium connects the main trading spaces vertically, while the exposed structure and services give the exterior its distinctive expression • In 2011, Lloyd’s received Grade I listed status, the UK’s highest level of architectural heritage protection, recognising the building as one of exceptional national importance • #archisource • #visitlondon #architecture #archilovers #londonarchitecture
