I think he’s blue because radiation is actually blue, not neon green because according to the people who did the devil’s core, they saw a flash of blue light being the high level of radiation.

for anyone unaware, while this is true. it’s not why his skin was blue!! henry selick said in the dvd commentary of the movie that the choice was made because it looked good from a production point of view, even saying “why are the Simpsons yellow” as a comparison on why they did it. he said soon after the reason in tv movie is because of the weather. it’s set in winter and he doesn’t wear much clothing. so him being blue because of radiation is not true.
