The last two months have been a haze of grief and disbelief for the family of Trey Wright, a 16-year-old South Carolina boy police say was murdered by a romantic rival in June 2025. For the first time, a member of Trey's family spoke publicly about his tragic death after a court hearing on Friday, August 22. Catherine Lee, Trey's grandmother, says he wanted to be a chaplain in the military after graduating high school. However, Trey's life was cut short on June 24, when the Florence County Sheriff's Office says he was gunned down by Devan Raper, 19. According to investigators, Wright and Raper were in a feud over the attention of Gianna Kistenmacher, age 17. She was supposedly Wright's girlfriend, but authorities say her loyalties were with Raper the night of the killing. Kistenmacher allegedly lured Wright into a face-off with Raper even thought she knew Raper was carrying a gun and itching for a violent showdown. After the trigger was pulled, she even reportedly acted as Raper's getaway driver. Trey's family didn't know any of that when his grandmother says they consoled and comforted Gianna at Trey's bedside in the hospital afterward. Her betrayal has only added to their shock, the grandmother said. Raper and Kistenmacher are both charged with murder, along with seven other teens who were at the crime scene and did nothing to stop the killing. Some even recorded it, the sheriff's office says. Raper remains in jail, while Kistenmacher has been released on bond alongside the other teens charged. #truecrime
