I took the new designs as something more apocalyptic with the context of some of the clips I’ve seen looking very desert, warrior-band which is backwards from what we knew the world as. The symbols have been simplified as the visualization of loss

I think what youre saying about capitalism fits very well for what we know the trajectory from korra was. Like thats early capitalism where theres still innovation and prosperity due to capitalism (and of course there are still issues and subjugation to make that possible) and then seven havens is like late stage capitalism so the cultural shifts that happened in-universe fit corporate minimalist cultural shifts we see in life

I think the reason why the culture elemental symbols got changed and developed into basic shapes of just "what type of bender/non-bender are you?" cuz it's not just your nationality anymore. After so long, the people are mixed like Mako & Bolin so much it's not a cultural thing anymore. It's just a maker.

Still feels a little too voltron esqe for my liking, I really feel like paramount just hates this series. Between the way they treated the movie to how they made the devs drop the fighting game uncooked (no lobbys no ranked) and the hate campaign for korra, also they broke the cycle of the next avatar looks like the previous one's love interest. But no matter what I say I'll still watch it
