@robkressfrx: I’m a pharmacist. So no, I’m not telling you medication is bad. Medication can save lives. It can relieve suffering. And sometimes it’s exactly what someone needs. But it shouldn’t keep us from asking the question. If someone can’t sleep because they’re working 60 hours a week… If they’re anxious because they’re living in a relationship that feels unsafe… If they can’t concentrate because they’re overwhelmed from the moment they wake up… If they’re exhausted because they’ve been carrying everyone around them for years… Then yes, sometimes medication may help. But here’s the question: What happens if the medication works? Do we stop asking why they needed it? There’s a difference between helping someone navigate a difficult season… and helping someone become better adapted to an environment that’s slowly wearing them down. Maybe every symptom isn’t simply something to silence. Sometimes a symptom may also be information about the life that physiology is living inside. And maybe the question isn’t only: “How do we make this person feel better?” Maybe we also need to ask: “What is this person responding to?” Because sometimes the answer isn’t wrong. The question just isn’t big enough. #TheCuriousContrarian #OrientationBasedMedicine #MentalHealth #WholePersonHealth #Pharmacist
But I think a huge part of a lot of people’s depression is that they are living lives that they really don’t want to be living. and they don’t know how to get out of it.

the other manager and I were discussing that "what if the medicated people are actually the good normal people driven to medication by those who really need to be medicated but are not." and I cannot stop thinking about that.

I say this all the time. I don’t medicate because there’s something wrong with me. I medicate because it’s the only way I can bear to live in modern day society.

Like is anxiety or depression really the problem, or is this world? And being depressed is the human response.

It is no sign of wellness to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society.

I asked my psychologist if hyper awareness was a cause of depression and he said yes…which just confirmed my thought that I wasn’t actually depressed I was just aware.

I got well when I left the meds and processed the situation. My anxiety. My depression. That was all a mask. The meds allowed it to be suppressed not healed. Life should be lived, not tolerated. We need to normalize that and not praising them for sticking it out or surviving a situation.

when an MD tried to push meds on me to try to cope with life, I said 'I think its normal to feel the way I do being in the position I'm in, so thanks but no thanks".

I've been saying this for literal years. I even told the last psychiatrist that I spoke to in like 2021 that it's not me, it's society and he prescribed me an ssri after I explicitly told him I will not take them and they make me feel like a zombie, his only care was "getting me back to work" his literal words. We are all being abused by a system that functions on narcissistic abuse from the rich. it's a societal pyschosis.
