The only reason I would say I understood the rest of the band saying no to Jason pursuing a side project would be it would make it very difficult to hold practice, cut an album or do shows and tour. That said, it hurt so damn bad seeing Jason leave. Jason was more Metallica than the rest of Metallica. I’ll go even further and ruffle feathers and say Jason was better than Cliff both in playing and showmanship. When I watched Metallica on stage when Jason was with them he drew attention with his long hair banging away and the brutal faces while he played. Jason was Metallica.
