@_themerc2: 🍫 Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire grow over 60% of the world’s cocoa. So why are their farmers struggling to sell it? Cocoa prices collapsed by over 70% in just 14 months, while harvests were left rotting in the fields and 200,000 tonnes went unsold in Côte d’Ivoire. 🇬🇭🇨🇮 At the same time, corporations say they are using less cocoa and replacing African cocoa with cheaper palm-based fats. 🍫📉 Farmers absorb the losses while processing, branding and retail happen elsewhere. Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire have 60% of the world’s cocoa, yet less than 6% of the $130 billion chocolate industry. 🌍 The solution is clear: process African commodities locally, build African brands, serve African markets first, and sell to the world on African terms. ✊🏾 💭 But do you think African countries can realistically shift from exporting raw commodities to controlling the entire value chain? #Cocoa #Ghana #IvoryCoast #AfricanEconomy #CommodityTrap

Now they are using chemicals to make chocolate products taste like it was made by cocoa. We will process our own products and buy it ourselves.

I honestly wish African countries would be more strategic about these types of decisions. Ex: Setup a legal document to protect them before the price increase, Consider alternatives for if things go bad and stop making announcements before everything is legally protected and setup in the back end. 😮💨

So this is why the Milo recipe has changed it and tastes nasty now. We definitely should do something about it.

There are manufacturing opportunities within the diaspora to absorb this excess. Build supply chains there

As a teacher of History, brother, your have nailed it. I always tell my History students that to a greater extent Africa is like this because of western imperialists oppressive policies and many are working up now. Continue doing this good work brother. More love from your Malawian brother comrade. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

The issue we have is that our leaders are busy enriching themselves instead of working for the people. Simple policy adjustments such as Schengen would grow our continent so much
