A CNN poll examining Americans’ most admired presidents found former President Barack Obama receiving more mentions than several of the country’s most recognizable historical leaders. According to the reported results, Obama received 30% support, compared with 19% for President Donald Trump. Abraham Lincoln and Ronald Reagan each received 9%, followed by John F. Kennedy at 6% and George Washington at 5%. One particularly notable finding was that Obama’s share exceeded the combined percentages of Lincoln and Washington, two presidents widely recognized for their roles in shaping American history. Meanwhile, nearly one in ten respondents reportedly did not identify a president they admired, a percentage greater than the individual figures recorded for several prominent historical leaders. The results highlighted how Americans’ perceptions of presidential leadership can vary depending on political beliefs, generational experiences, and personal interpretations of history. While more recent presidents attracted considerable attention, historical figures such as Lincoln and Washington continued to receive recognition. However, the survey measured public admiration rather than presidential accomplishments or effectiveness in office. Ultimately, the findings offered a glimpse into how Americans view presidential legacies and how contemporary politics can influence perceptions of leaders from different eras.
