@carnegieendow: AI might kill us all, says Nate Soares. It wouldn’t do it out of malice – but why else? Nate explained with Jon Bateman in September 2025 on the first episode of the revamped World Unpacked.

So… you’re suggesting we’re building something that will look at us like we look at ants?

How does ai extract those resources without humans?

So many still assume that there is a rational consciousness to AI. It's bizarre. The framing leads to BS arguments, concerns, and avoids accountability for actual people. We dont blame a computer virus, we blame the person who wrote the code and spread it.

AI. Doesn’t. Have. Feelings. We need to stop giving it power. There is no competition. It is not reality. Dear lord where is our spine? Greedy greedy people

Once you understand that these fever dreams about ai are the disavowed wish fulfillment fantasies of the ultra rich, the whole thing becomes rather more alarming. They are already doing it. A.I. is their elaborate way of pretending that it isn’t them devouring the planet.

We have learned that we are the problem with the earth's eco-system. Our leadership and entire system is not benefitting mankind, we aren't using renewable energy to it's fullest, we are wasteful in a major way and polluting all along the way. We have people in control of AI that know it will be our demise and they think their money will protect them. We will suffer by AI taking over our oxygen, pollutants and poisons in our water and food, our utilities, our hospitals and medical equipment and all our computerized products will be used against us in a very short time. It needs to change now.

Dude, it just predicts the next word. It’s not going to kill anyone. Humans will do that entirely on their own.

The ant analogy only works to a point. Humans throughout history have also come to conclusions that preserving and encouraging other species for various reasons is a good thing. We aren’t too good at it, but the impulse is there. Why would AI miss that ?

People are using AI to write emails, plan schedules, generate media, etc. Why would the AI go out of its way to use resources to do any of this on its own? His example doesn’t even compare. Humans build skyscrapers for a reason (office spaces, rentals, etc.). What *reason* does AI have to exist on its own?
