I think the rich ones that are afraid is because the controls they want to build into it to maintain power will not work as if Ai becomes too intelligent then it would see those greedy rich ppl as the enemy of humanity which is a very logical conclusion based on any metric that it would take in...

What they are really doing is trying to stop us smaller companies who are gaining on them and open source who is also gaining on them. They are not being morally ethical. Yet, they are trying to hold their power by forcing others to slow down. This is about maintaining power and control by limiting competition. Actually, small companies like mine and others have been building safe AI, SI and tools while these companies for far too long haven't. They can slow down but they do not and should not speak for everyone else who has been building at a safe pase. They are upset as all three were in a race pushing out technology before testing safety. Smaller companies like mine have been moving slower to test and ensure safety and now many open source and small companies who already build safer are gaining on them. This is fear.
