I’ll never forget my first shift. Dropped my rag on the floor a couple times and the guy training me looked me in the eye and said, “if you drop another damn rag, you will not get another one the rest of the shift.” I didn’t drop another rag 😆

i forgot to close my ice bin twice and the third time my trainer slammed it and yelled at me in the lobby with guests watching and said it’s not cute or funny to leave it open and i cried and a guest told me it was okay i’m literally still traumatized 😭

I got hired in 2016 and my trainer told another trainee and I while on bar “let me just help them kill the line really quick then you can hop back on” and you could tell she was frustrated and I was so embarrassed I locked tf in after that and never got caught up again. We would get in trouble for any little thing, I left in 2021 and even then they were getting treated like kids they would not survive dutch 2016-2019😭😭

Someone threw a pack of straws into the ice bin because the trainees forgot to close it. I’m a shop lead and told them to stop doing that because it isn’t encouraging and is hurting their confidence. They both quit after that…….

Trainees complain now but they dont know how we had it yrs ago, I still remember not closing my ice bin and my trainer spilling my drink into it so id learn to finally close it 😭🤣

and people wonder why the quality of drinks has gone down. yes it's party companies fault for not setting them up well enough but also a lot of newer baristas don't know jack about drinks or coffee.
