I wouldn’t put a time limit on how long I’d stay. I’d introduce myself again if I had to. I’d tell them about us without forcing them to believe me. I’d show them pictures, tell them stories, and remind them of the life we had . I wouldn’t expect them to immediately feel the same way just because I remembered being their partner. I wouldn’t abandon them because something happened to their brain that they had no control over.

My husband has a TBI in the speech center of his brain (happened while serving overseas before I met him). It wasn’t easy to get where we are but he is my absolute other half. I health declined and he didn’t leave me. Now we both struggle with words at times (him more than me) and we’ve learned to understand each other without words. Shoot sometimes it sounds like we’re caveman grunting to each other when one of us doesn’t have the words. It’s become comical to us.
