@socialcap: That tool at the estate sale? There's a reason it's been around since before Amazon basics and it has everything to do with quality. #money #wealth #finance #tyler
One of my friends has a Nissan Leaf. in the winter, it gets about 20 miles per *full* charge. It's older/used as mentioned. Otherwise sure used gas powered cars I'm in agreement.

The wrench set I “borrowed” from my dad in college 20 years ago is still going strong.

All the car comments😳, one or two years old that have the same safety features as the new one. Let someone else take the brunt of the depreciation and you can still hold onto it for 10 years.

That wrench from 1974? There’s a reason you’re still seeing it in 2026.

Bought a 2013 Chevy Volt in January for $4000. Works perfectly, and my daily commute went from $10 in fuel to only a dollar in electricity.

Cars not always. Toyota Corolla sits used 5yrs old on a dealer lot $5K cheaper than new 100K Kms.

I wish used cars were on average $17k less then new, but I’m in the market and researching and there is very little difference in price for a good 4 year old used low mileage vehicle versus brand new…. But still agree, used cars are always the best value.

A five year-old electric car has a battery that won’t take a charge anymore, but I agree on any other car

No thanks. If I buy a book it’s because I want that book that’s right there in the bookstore, I’m not going to go hunting it down. Also tools are cheap and plentiful nowadays, even if the quality has declined.

I will say it’s nice to support the local bookstore, however. So I would take half of your books off that list, and get your other half from your local library. ❤️

Good advice - I would add motorcycles, boats, and campers to that list; lots of used market supply and they often hold their value, and similar to exercise equipment, a lot of them sit unused.

no opinion :
for cars in the the rust belt, better if you can get one 2-3 years old if the interest rate doesn't jack it up past the price of a new one. also check insurance before buying the car.

Good except for cars. That 5-y/o EV will need expensive repairs sooner than a new one. And people don’t take care of cars, so I wouldn’t trust most used cars.

When it comes to cars I always buy them brand new with all the bells and whistles because I keep them for about 10 years so I know I will milk their value to the end.

Often many of these items go to the curb for free at big trash day. Free is the best deal ever.

Cars always come up as don’t buy new, but what about people like us who will keep that vehicle for 10 plus years?

EV’s absolutely do not hold their value for someone who is gonna hold onto it forever, and Nissan’s are horrid, no wonder it depreciated the most. Absolutely agree with all else! I don’t buy anything new!
