@thehotmesshomestead: I know people say silkies are useless, and if your goal is only meat and eggs, I can understand that. However, there are some major benefits in my opinion! #silkies #homestead #homesteading #farmlife
my silkie of 3 yrs went broody for the first time this summer. she got chicken protective services on her broody all July and August broke numerous eggs that had babies in it then when close to hatch last weekend she stopped being broody right before she was about to be put in broody jail

Do they only go broody once they start laying?

We raise shamo and I rarely ever collect eggs when I want to hatch chicks. They’re just as easy to entice to go broody. On our honeymoon everyone was under strict instructions to not touch the eggs that were laid while we were gone. We came home to like 10 broody hens 😂

Judging by how excited you get about the incubators, I feel that statement is a lie. 😂❤️

My seramas are like this. If I don’t collect the eggs for even a day, pterodactyl activation happens haha

Shepherds Run Farm :
My little Serama is my broody machine. Her problem is that prior to now, she was living with my full sized flock and would steal their full sized eggs. And she wasn’t big enough to cover more than one. But then her and one of my lavender orps went broody at the same time and hatched one singular baby. That they decided was BOTH theirs. 😂 she’s now been moved to her own pen and I got her three more seramas plus a d’uccle bantam thingy to have her own mini flock. And officially have her first clutch in the incubator! She wouldn’t go broody this one time, so had to pull the incubator out😂

I thought the reason was just going to be that they're really cute 😁 which would have been a persuasive enough argument for me 😂

I used to hate silkies until we took in a pair. Now they are my 2nd favorite breed. Not for homesteading but for show and pet purposes 😅

Not anything to do with the video topic, but what's your lip combo? It's gorgeous and looking for something like that for my wedding day in a month!
