for my maintenance meds that are tablets if I need 25mg I have the doc order 100mg and write the instructions to take 1/4 pill... makes my pills go 4 months instead of 1. when you take a ton of pills this saves a lot of money and less trips for refills

if you're eligible for Medicare, find an advantage plan that gives you an OTC allowance. mine gives me a little bit of money every month for things like OTC meds and even some grocery items. (it also gives me money for completing certain tests, like mammograms and eye exams)

if you're able to get food stamps, you can get Walmart delivery for around $6 a month. it's been so helpful to get groceries even when I can't get to the store.

if you can, get the prescription card for your medication. mine was originally over $600/ month and got it for $0 after getting the humira card.

Live somewhere beside America. Some places I can afford to travel and see a doctor. But only if I stay out of America for at least 3 months to save on my living expenses. That costs less than just 3 months at home.

I am a cancer patient. I am almost 3 years out from chemo but still take immunotherapy . I have good and bad days as a residual from chemo. I marked a mason jar for each of my grand babies. Every good day I empty all my change into their jars, along with any change I find around the house or in my car. It is a way to celebrate a good day and that I am still here with them. You would be surprised how it adds up. It will eventually be deposited into and education fund that is set up for them! 🥰

I grow my own leafy greens. These are toy choy and oak leaf lettuce to the right. Nutritious, cheap, safe, and impossible to buy at the store. It's also a fun hobby.

Not really a money hack, more of an energy hack that saves a little money... Cook meals that are good, if not better as leftovers... then you spend energy once & eat multiple times... Taco Meat- A Big batch will get you tacos, quesadillas, burrito bowls & then freeze the leftovers to make tortilla soup later! Pasta Bakes, great reheated by themselves or made into Sketti Sandwiches w/ a little garlic bread or bread & butter!

Hot take: don’t pay your medical bills unless a place you need to go is one that will stop seeing you. The world is so volatile I’d wait and see 🤷🏻♀️also I just paid my student loans and debt off two years ago and my credit score is terrible. It’s all made up.

My nearest pharmacy is 47 miles round trip. I found out my hospital pharmacy does free deliveries. Saves me a lot of gas. I have also had them put me on a prescription sync schedule as much as possible so all prescriptions are due almost at the same time.

my tip is- it's worth it. all the years it takes fighting to get approvals on all the things you need in place to survive. don't ever give up- keep pushing till you get it. I don't live with CI- but my condition did cause total/permanent disability- and this is my best tip. keep fighting

I don't know if this is unhinged, but I make concentrated bone broth. I get the 5 dollar rotisserie chicken from Costco, which is asked a great deal. I can get at least 3-4 meals out of it for 2 adults. Then I save the bones in my freezer along with all my veggie scraps. once I have enough I make broth.
Last time I added chicken feet to get extra collagen in the broth. Then I kept reducing until it was almost a gel, poured it in a pan, refrigerated it over night. By morning it had set into broth jello. I cut that into cubes, filled into snack size baggies, then froze it all. 1 bag = 2-4 cups of broth depending on how strong you want it.
I use them in all kinds of stuff. sauces, gravy, soups, on is own with bread when I can't eat anything else.

If you have large medical bill always call the billing office for options. We owed $25k and after finding out insurance wasn't covering it they cut it in half and got me on a zero interest payment plan. It took a few years, but it's gone now. 😁

Partly money related, mostly ability related. The hardest household task for me is changing my sheets and pillowcases. I sleep in a “nest” of pillows, usually about eight. Many times I would strip the bed, barely manage to get the clean sheets on and one pillowcase to put my head on and not be able to get the rest done until the next day. I just bought six pillowcases in a set and now I can take the pillowcases off and put these on and not have to wash and dry the ones that came off before I can put them back on. Great investment!

if you have an HSA check amazon, Sam's club and/or Costco for otc meds, medical supplies and and equipment. often cheaper than the pharmacy stuff. can often pay with HSA funds or submit for reimbursement. 🧡
