“Emergency stop”. Literally no reason to have this over a recall. If you’re yelling at your dog to stop you want them to come back to you. Only reason would be if you’re hunting and your dog is going the wrong way. Even still you would just change the direction. Wasted command

How do you teach dogs to stay close to you off lead? Mine has good recall but I’d really like a ‘stay close to me’ command for times when I don’t need to put them on a lead, but don’t want them running off too far.

In an emergency, will your dog hear you saying stop? I'm thinking about the day when someone left our gate open. Dudley was let out for a wee and smelt freedom. He did a Chariots of Fire. Off he went through the open gate and across a main road. He heard nothing. He was winning the gold medal!

When I was a teenager a decade ago I taught my dog perfect stop and to follow commands at a distance by literally bluffing my way through. Like, I had no idea what I was doing and it took a longg time. I'm getting a new dog soon and your videos are so helpful, the methods seem so much more effective than whatever I was doing back then.
