Tate wasn't even finished with his reminders when Bam swung her leg over the saddle. The massive, wild beast instantly retaliated against the sudden intrusion, rearing up violently and tossing Bam onto the hard dirt floor. The dull thud echoed through the stable, but Bam felt nothing compared to the excruciating, agonizing pain tearing her heart to pieces. She didn't stay down. Ignoring the sharp ache in her ribs, she forced herself back up, grabbed the leather reins, and mounted the stallion again. Once more, the stallion bucked with wild fury, throwing her violently to the ground. Her head hit the wooden post, a dark bruise forming near her temple as blood scraped against her skin, but the physical damage was hollow, numb, and meaningless. She dragged herself up a third time, her eyes fixed on the horse with a terrifying, silent resolve, until the exhausted stallion finally yielded to her iron grip. Without waiting a single second, Bam kicked her heels in and rode the Black Stallion straight out into the treacherous mountain trails. She pulled back on the rough leather reins so hard, with such reckless, desperate force, that the leather tore into her palms, making both of her hands bleed freely against the reins. As the stallion tore through the winding, muddy paths, the dam inside Bam finally broke. The freezing wind slapped against her face, but it was nothing compared to the suffocating agony tearing through her chest. Hot, bitter tears spilled uncontrollably from her eyes, burning against her raw, bruised skin. She sobbed openly into the howling air, every ragged breath feeling like glass in her lungs. How could Oom look into her eyes, touch her so softly, and call her a wifey-to-be when it was all just an obligation? Every touch, every kiss from the night before replayed in her mind like a cruel joke, twisting the knife deeper into her shattered heart. She let the tears blur her vision, crying out all her desperation, heartbreak, and foolish devotion into the lonely expanse of the mountain until there was nothing left inside her but a hollow, agonizing void. By the time Bam rode deep into the mountain, dark clouds rolled in and a heavy downpour followed, drenching the trails in thick mud and violent winds, washing away her tear tracks into the bitter rain. Back at the stables, Tate paced back and forth, panic mounting as the storm raged. Fearing the worst, he sprinted straight to the estate office, bursting through the door to find Oom.

"P'Oom! It's Dr. Saralee!" Tate gasped out, breathless and trembling nervously. "She forced me to give her the Black Stallion, she was thrown off twice, hit her head, and rode out toward the peak in this storm! She was bleeding, P'Oom!" Oom’s face drained of all color, horror striking her core. "What?! Why didn't you stop her?!" "I couldn't! She was, she looked like a completely different person, P'Oom! Cold, silent, like she didn't care if she lived or died!" When Bam finally returned to the villa hours later, the rain had soaked her to the bone. Blood dried near her temple, and crimson streaked down her trembling fingers, dripping onto the wooden floor. Inside the living room, Bam stood entirely motionless, colder, sharper, and more devoid of emotion than she had ever been before. Bam Saralee was entirely calm, her countenance chillingly undisturbed, an unsettling stillness about her that sent a violent wave of chills straight through Oom's entire body. Oom stared at her in utter dread; this was not the gentle woman who held her last night, but a dangerous, unreadable stranger. Oom gasped, rushing forward with desperate tears in her eyes. "Bam! Oh my god, Bam, you're hurt! What happened to you?! Let me see your hands." "I can take care of myself," Bam said evenly. #oomeisaya #bamsaralee #oombam #austory
