I am a software engineer, they are not there yet, but they are getting good. Small models now have capabilities of the large models from a while ago. And they creating frameworks/harnesses/apis for models to control hardware. There are also companies that are experimenting with printing model weights directly onto the silicon resulting in instantaneous decision making behavior. It is not there yet, and the current top companies won’t all survive, but the technology is real.

Everyone in the white collar industry is already using AI to augment 90% of their tasks. The only barrier to the more replacement level AIs like Astra is the cost. Once that issue is solved, it’s over. But that will take some time.

I don’t think you’re correct here. Yes, they’re not profitable, but they’re absolutely as powerful as they describe. I don’t think that’s a reason to regulate them, since you can’t regulate everyone, but not profitable is far different than lacking utility.

ask any senior dev, AI has replaced the need for junior devs, and is good enough that the devs can do tasks with out writing a line of code themselves.
