well like I's think dat's cuz da peeps with a long history in America like ain't currently da ones in charge of it da history of da current country we know as merica is like relatively short n starts with da bloody genocide n da brutal attempts ta erase those peoples leaving da survivors with just like small pockets of land ta live on n practise what pieces of their culture survived with em n so like tho I totes get what ur trying ta say we should like def talk a lot more bout da Native American's long history n achievements in their own rights n recamagnize em for who they is n who theys were, treat Em with a whole lotta more respects I's kinda feel like pretending Native American history n da country known as merica's history r da same is kinda icky since like tho connected 1's history starts with da bloody attempted Erasure of da other so like america claiming da natives history as its own Just feels kinda like rly wrong...

I got roped into helping a British tour group at the National Museum of the American Indian. One thing that became clear quickly is that their understanding was pure Hollywood stereotype. And just the plains tribe hodgepodge that Hollywood created. The Haudenosaunee Confederacy was completely mind blowing for them conceptually. It seemed like they took the "enlighten savage" stereotype as a reason to not count them as civilized.

The European settlers even tore down the remains of these civilisations, Cahokia is a good example they used the stones to build St Louis I think. Otherwise there would be wonderful ruins of a huge city and connected mounds in the area. Or the weird monument with the old man faces, carved into an old worshipping site? I dont know a lot of US history but I know it aint taught right still

Also I feel it's worth mentioning that the USA as a country is older than, like, dozens of modern European countries. And just like those countries, people have lived here and our history is a lot older than the official founding of the nation that's currently here.

I just… like one of the COOLEST things I got to learn about in school was our different native tribes. People have lived here for a long time and they did and still do incredible things. 😤😤
