@coolemogothgirl: This tiny railroad town sits on the third floor of the St. Louis City Museum, founded by the late Bob Cassily. Much of the diorama was built by STL's premier model-rail builder John Ellecracht. The train set itself is only a third of the Pete Fordyce HO-series set, donated when Fordyce fell ill leaving the family home to be sold. The set took 5 years to create, and was built to depict the 1963 Missouri Pacific Line's route from Pine Bluff to Little Rock, AR. It is unknown what became of the other pieces, but those preserved in the City Museum have been restored and granted a whole new life of whimsical wonder for all to see. Andy Fuller, who has worked on the City Museum for over 7 years, spends all of his free time adding to the exhibit using recycled material, 3D printed creations, and other fabrication techniques. He has built tiny sea serpents, windmills, dinosaurs, spaceships, and everything in between. His favorite addition is the hot air balloon over the building depicting the STL Union Station, or the tiny replica of the rooftop praying mantis that rules atop the real-life City Museum, built by none other than the remarkable Bob Cassily himself. If you look closely, you'll even find a tiny man climbing up the corner of the building underneath the bus- a reference to when Cassily climbed the southwest side of the museum using the handholds installed in the brick. The museum as a whole is an homage to what we, as humans, are truly capable of. There's something for everyone, and its so beautiful to see the community come together to have fun.
