I have a “ways to ask for help” poster with questions they’re allowed to ask me. They constantly would ask for help before even trying so now they have to ask “am I doing this right?” Or “can I show you my thinking?” It forces them to engage/try before calling me over. It has been a game changer. I also have “is this how you spell___?” And “can I read this to you?” Because they wanted me to spell everything and read everything without trying first.
