Their stubbornness. The moments when they become cold because they don’t know how to say that something hurts. You start noticing where their silence comes from. Why they become distant when they’re scared. Why they push people away when they need them the most. And suddenly, their worst traits don’t look so simple anymore. You understand that there is usually a story behind the things people do. A wound. A fear. Something they learned long before they met you. Loving someone means wanting to understand that story. It means looking at them on their worst days and still remembering the person they are underneath it. It means knowing their flaws and not using them against them. But understanding doesn’t mean accepting everything. Love cannot make cruelty beautiful. It cannot turn disrespect into something romantic. Sometimes loving someone also means telling them when they’re hurting you. Sometimes it means staying close while they learn to become better. And sometimes it means leaving when they refuse to. I think that’s what makes love real. You don’t love someone because they have no ugly sides. You love them while knowing exactly where those sides are. You see the whole person. The softness. The anger. The fear. The beautiful parts and the difficult ones. And somehow, you still look at them and think, I know you. And I still choose you. Not because you’re perfect. But because you’re human.
