@elderemofunlife: 1878, Professor James H. Kerr of Colorado College found a dinosaur skull in one of the ridges east of the red rocks. The fossil was sent to Yale, where it was identified as a Camptosaurus. Then it basically disappeared from local history. For 117 years. In 1995, while researchers were working on exhibits for the new visitor center, they discovered the old records. The skull was still at Yale. Scientists eventually determined it wasn't actually Camptosaurus. In 2006, it was recognized as a new dinosaur species: Theiophytalia kerri. That means Garden of the Gods has a dinosaur species named after the scientist who found it. 🦴 #sunday #gardenofthegods #fyp #History
