📌 SAD NEWS: CHECHEN FIGHTER KHAVAZHI AMAEV, KNOWN AS “ZUMSO,” KILLED IN UKRAINE
According to preliminary information, Zumso was in an apartment together with a Ukrainian citizen who is suspected of having committed the killing. The cause of the conflict, the identity of the alleged killer, and other circumstances surrounding the incident remain unknown at this time.
Khavazhi Amaev was born on 2 January 1980 in the village of Zumsoy, Itum-Kali District, Chechnya. During the Second Chechen War, he served with the forces of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria (ChRI) and commanded one of the sectors of the South-Western Front.
Zumso left the territory of the occupied Caucasus together with Amir Tarkhan Gaziyev and a group of eight mujahideen. Later, the Amir of the Caucasus Emirate accused Tarkhan of disobedience and desertion, as well as of taking all the weapons and ammunition and, having misled the mujahideen, leading them away from the territory of jihad.
After arriving in Turkey, Tarkhan and Zumso joined Akhmed Zakayev. Between 2012 and 2014, Amaev took part in the war in Syria on the side of the armed opposition and led the unit Kataib Ibad ar-Rahman.
Following the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Zumso travelled to Ukraine and joined Chechen volunteers. He served as deputy commander of the Separate Special Purpose Battalion of the Armed Forces of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria, operating as part of Ukraine’s International Legion.
In 2024, it was reported that Zumso was involved in forming a separate group intended to conduct reconnaissance and sabotage operations.
