@sapperlot_doc: this fandom has a massive problem with either villainizing or babying will graham… you guys just don’t get him like I do #hannibal #willgraham #hannibalnbc #hughdancy #hannibaltiktok
It KILLS me when people infantilize Will as if he didn’t clock Hannibal almost IMMEDIATELY!!!

I HATE the argument that Will just became who he was always meant to be, or that he just ‘unleashed his dark side’ or whatever. Will was not initially evil! He was flawed, but he was a good man, who felt guilt and horror by his actions. Hannibal took advantage of that, groomed him into believing that he was a monster, and that no one else would accept him because of this. Will, at the end, became exactly what Hannibal wanted, but not what Will would have wanted

Idk how people don't realize that extreme empathy can be flawed bc you can feel and understand everyone & sometimes boundaries are literally not visible unless you force it , He empathizes with everyone which means he can understand the depth of people both "good and evil"

it’s easier for people to say will is simply evil than admit he was one of hannibal’s victims, and a flawed one at that. i think many ignore will’s victimhood because they assume acknowledging it turns him into some kind of helpless baby when it doesn’t. his relationship with hannibal is a trauma‑bond and people hate hearing that too, because it means their yaoi isn’t “mutually toxic.” it’s aggravating. hannibal grooming will shaped him into someone who violently punishes evil under the guise of justice, and as time goes on, he also commits violence to protect hannibal, the only person he feels he has left (because hannibal completely isolated him.) will is incredibly nuanced and it’s frustrating to watch such a beautifully complex character get flattened into either purely good or purely evil. he’s imperfect, but he was severely groomed. it doesn’t make hannigram any less canon or good either. you just have to see things for what they are.

I hate when people can’t see nuance in his character. Like no he isn’t an innocent little baby but he also wasn’t inherently evil. He has an empathy disorder so in the way that he can completely understand the best of people, he can also understand the worst. Having sympathy is different from empathy. Will literally felt the same joy that killers would feel when they killed because he could empathize that much, but if it weren’t for Hannibal AND Jack then he never would’ve been inclined to kill for his own pleasure. I’m including Jack because being in the FBI exposed him to dark people way more often than good people, so that over exposure consumed him, PLUS Hannibal definitely manipulated Will into believing that his empathy for killers was his own emotions. Eventually of course he does find pleasure in killing despite becoming aware of Hannibal’s manipulation in season 2, and you could argue some of his actions in season 2 and 3 were evil, but to label him straight up as evil is crazy.

no one will ever convince me that Will and Hannibal are "mutually abusive" when Will was getting groomed and tortured by this man just bc he was intriguing to him. Yes in the end Will turned out to be a pretty bad person, but who brought him to that point?? People act as if Will would've always turned out like this, that it was his destiny to become a killer (which really pisses me off)

You earned my follow for this. I'm tired of the villainizers and babyfiers cause he's so beautifully flawed and it sucks I can't really find many other Will fans who see that too.

Low key what if I said the people who are always saying stuff like “will is also evil and not a baby!” Constantly also don’t get his character, he shouldn’t be infantilized by the fandom to be seen as a good character but it’s not good to counteract that by labeling him as evil 24/7

I think fundamentally Will is afraid. He’s afraid of his work, of himself, of people, of what is happening to his health. He spends basically the whole first season visibly pants pissingly terrified, but it’s that same fear that lets him be brave. Will faces his fear over and over again and he very rarely ever wins but he still keeps getting back up and trying again. Will fundamentally as a character wants to help, he wants to understand and to be understood in turn, and he wants to belong. He’s a deeply troubled man with noble intentions. He knows what it is to be afraid, to be alone, so he knows exactly what to say.

Both Bryan and Hugh have talked about how the whole point of wills character is that he’s neither good nor bad it makes me sad when people group him into one side the whole point of his character is the contradictions

literally the point of will as a character is that his empathy makes him exist within the grey areas of morality - he can't see anyone in black or white because he can feel their feelings and understand them even if it scares him, even if he legally has to condemn their actions

Will isn’t evil. I believe Hannibal manipulated him into believing that that’s who Will was meant to be — Will is genuinely just a guy who helps people and lives a simple life with stray dogs that he loves deeply and likes fishing and teaches. It’s sad to think Hannibal genuinely broke Will and broke him so much that it made him think it’s okay, as a Hannibal fan — Will is genuinely not evil until he was introduced to Hannibal.

I think Will is a good man because he tried so hard to be good. Because there are some who wouldn't put much effort in clinging to their morality as much as he had.

I feel like there's so many people in the fandom that only categorizes characters as either good or bad, they can't comprehend the complex writing of the characters and just boils them down to being a villain or just an infantalized grown ass man
