@chandbhangal: I’ll be releasing a Substack article about the exhibit because I definitely have some opinions that others might consider “controversial” but I do believe this exhibit is an important starting point. As a Punjabi-Canadian woman, I’m approaching the exhibit through my own perspective and lived experience, and I believe there is still a lot of de-colonial work that can be done when it comes to how Punjabi history is presented and understood. I have two thoughts I’ll share for now. First, I wish the title of the exhibit itself had been approached through a more de-colonial lens, and I wish our ma boli (mother tongue) had been incorporated more meaningfully. The Punjabi word for Princess is Rajkumari. Second, I didn’t appreciate how some observers have generalized the exhibit as being about “Indian history.” This framing can erase the history and validity of West Punjab, now Pakistan, and the deep ties it continues to have to Punjab and Punjabi identity. There’s so much more I want to unpack, and I’ll be sharing more soon
