my play order was: replicant > drakengard 3 > automata. all endings for each and dg3 is my favorite. I watched full gameplay of dg1 all cutscenes and endings on yt before automata

I’m honestly just glad I played automata first because I don’t think I would have dragged my horrible attention span through the entirety of replicant if I didn’t already know it would be a phenomenal story 😭 ending E in replicant was complete dogshit tho even tho I love nier automata 💔 completely valid takes on your part

It doesn't matter how good a game's story is if its technical and mechanical aspects are flawed. NieR: Automata has issues with a lot of things, and in my opinion, it’s a 6.5 or 7 out of 10 (generally speaking, Yoko Taro makes mediocre games with maybe great stories). For starters, the combat system gets boring quickly; it’s supposed to be a slasher game, yet it lacks combos, and most of the fighting feels like a "dodge simulator." On top of that, the shooting pod mechanic is a joke—you’re forced to hold down a single button throughout the entire fight just to deal damage and destroy floating orbs, making the gameplay feel static and unresponsive. Then there’s the recycling of locations—you constantly revisit the same areas and the world isn't particularly interesting when it comes to side quests. 9S’s hacking mechanic also gets tedious fast and breaks the flow of combat; A2’s mechanics are far better. It’s hardly worth discussing; Automata is overrated, and if someone actually enjoyed that gameplay, they probably only play visual novels ( there’s anything wrong with VNs).

Ending E already existed with the Grimoire Nier book that released with the original release of Nier, and I can easily tell you that the Automata tie-in stuff’s new with the Replicant remake

I love both games and totally get what you mean. I was hit more personally/emotionally with Automata’s narrative, and more emotionally with Replicant’s characters. Replicant shone most with its characters, world building, and pacing whereas Automata shone most with continuing the world building and having interesting themes (imo). Different strengths with the through-line of a great world (thanks drakengard). I do see how Automata is a pretty grand leap away from what drakenier was before and Automata was my introduction to drakenier so I’m not sure, but I can see why that could rub long time fans the wrong way. Also the “fandom” is insufferable garbage most of the time lol. But at the end of the day I’d still call them both some of my favorite games of all time

I happend to play automata first than replicant because it was cheaper 😭 now I’m playing replicant an one thing I noticed was that the characters in replicant pull you more than Automata

can't believe I'm going to say this but a game can be objectively good even achieving its intended vision but one can still dislike the game this is where I like to say art is both objective and subjective in a way it's up to how one engages with it

so you hate automata because of some dudes on your tiktok comments ? you don't hate the game you just hate the community my guy these are 2 different things lol, the only criticism you made about the game is that you didn't connect with any characters (which is ok it's subjective) but besides that there's literally nothing else just straight useless yap, genuinely wasted my time reading this thinking it could be interesting
