I work in a daycare, with 2 year olds. one of the kids in my class is an only child, but his mom is pregnant. normally this boy is sweet and plays well with the other kids, but lately he's been getting aggressive. biting, pushing hitting. I addressed it with his mom when she picked him up, and she said " he doesn't act that way at home", and I looked her in the eye and said "there aren't other kids at home".

my parents separated when I was in Jr high and my mom moved out. my parents took it upon themselves to have a meeting with my teachers to let them know this was going on in case I started acting out or anything. luckily (? lol) I adjusted well to it all, honestly just wanted my parents to be happy apart and it didn't bother me much or reflect in my schoolwork enough that I didn't find out they did this until college, and I felt very loved and appreciated that they did that for me. I know many of my friends had parents that wouldn't have thought to do that.

Had parents split up, mom moved out. Then they got back together. Were mystified that mom moving back in didn’t fix kids being emotional.

My daughter was acting out of character last year and her teacher sent an email to check in. I responded quickly to let her know that my daughter had gotten her flu shot over the weekend and was probably just feeling a little more emotional due to that. She felt totally normal the next day and I really appreciated the teacher checking in to see how she could support my daughter in case it was something more serious.

Literally had this happen to me! I had a 6th grader all of a sudden act up in class and we had a parent meeting. Went through the whole meeting trying to figure out ways to help him and then at the end the parents admitted they were separating. 🤦🏼♀️

That’s the worst. I mean when parents don’t think they need to tell you about Major life events I understand the people are private. They want to keep things to themselves, but that kind of stuff is important for the teachers to know.

Funny if a teacher called me about behavior, the first words out of my mouth would be "what did they do"?
