@.carolgiselle: So many teachers ask me, “How do you keep your students engaged during a lesson?” 👀 Today I’m modeling some of my go-to engagement strategies during a math story problem so you can actually SEE what this looks like in real time! ✨ FIRST: Your tone matters. You have to BELIEVE what you’re saying. Make the content feel exciting and immersive! Change your volume, slow down, speed up, lower your voice, build suspense… make them want to know what happens next. ✨ NEXT: Use lots of little call-and-responses. It doesn’t have to be a full-blown cheer 😂 Have students repeat important words, numbers, vocabulary, or ideas after you. It keeps everyone participating and lets you quickly check who is following along. ✨ TRACKING: When a student shares, have the class track them! I teach my students to say “Tracking me!” so the speaker knows they have everyone’s attention and the class knows they have a job to do. ✨ AND THIS ONE IS HUGE: If they don’t meet the expectation, DO IT AGAIN. 👏🏽 If you said the expectation and then let it slide the first time, they’re going to learn that the expectation doesn’t really matter. Model it. Practice it. Repeat it. Then move on. These are the little engagement moves I’m constantly using throughout my lessons, and I wanted to model them for you instead of just telling you about them.
